To be eligible for admission at Chadwick International, your child may hold either a foreign or a Korean passport. Qualified students from expatriate families residing in Korea will be considered as a priority for admissions. When assessing your child’s application, the Admissions Office considers our internal test scores, and prior academic performance and behavioral records, as well as English proficiency.

Eighty qualified applicants who have completed admissions packages will be assessed for each grade level as possible candidates for the 2011-2012 school year. Additional candidates will be tested as required.

Application Steps

Step 1: Submit Online Application Form and Non-Refundable Application Fee

The applicant’s first task is to complete the online application form and submit the non-refundable application fee (To be notified soon) as published by the Chadwick International Business Office.

Step 2: Submit the Application and all Supplemental Documents.

Parents must have the current Principal, School Head, or Guidance Counselor submit an official transcript that includes all report cards for the past two years prior to application for Grades 2-7 as well as the first semester of the current year. Grade 1 students should submit records from the current year and Kindergarten applicants should provide progress reports when applicable. Copies of report cards in languages other than English must be translated to English, notarized, and sealed in an envelope by the notary prior to submission. Teacher Recommendation forms should also be submitted from the student's current classroom teacher and/or English and Mathematics teacher for Grades 2-7 applicants. Teacher Reference Forms should be submitted for Kindergarten and Grade 1 applicants where applicable.

Once Chadwick International receives the application, supplemental document, and the application fee, we will send a confirmation email. Please use the Application Checklist (click here to download)  to track your application progress.

It is recommended that Supplemental documents can be sent via courier to ensure arrival in a timely manner. It is important to remember that Chadwick International cannot begin processing an application until all documentation is received and the application-processing fee has been paid.

Note: All documents submitted to Chadwick International will be considered the property of the school and will not be returned following the completion of the application process.

Step 3: Take Admission Test and Schedule Interview (if requested)

Testing and Interviews

Eighty qualified applicants who have completed admissions packages will be assessed for each grade level as possible candidates for the 2010-2011 school year. Additional candidates will be tested as required. Upon receipt of a student's completed application package, parents or guardians will be contacted to schedule an appointment for testing. Parents or guardians must bring the applicant's original passport on the day of testing. Photocopies will not be accepted as a substitute for the original passport.

Kindergarten - Grade 2

As part of the readiness assessment, each child will attend a group observation session which will collect information on each child’s developmental readiness in the areas of social relations, emerging literacy and numercy skills, as well as overall physical development. 

Grades 3 - 8

Applicants in Grades 3 - 7 will complete a set of admission tests designed to evaluate their proficiency in reading comprehension, language usage, mathematics, and English oral and written skills. If an applicant has recent standardized test scores (e.g. TOSEL, PELT, TOEIC, etc.), he/she may include these scores in the application package.

Upon completion of testing, the Admissions Office will review the  the initial reading, language usage, math, and oral and writing assessment results. Selected candidates will be notified and  will attend one-on-one interviews scheduled by the Admissions Office.

Step 4:  Wait for Notification of Decision from Admissions Office

Once the Admissions Office has received the online application form, application fee, all of the required application supplemental documents, and the testing has been completed, an Admissions Committee's decision will be made after a careful assessment of each applicant. The decision may indicate acceptance, denial, or placement on a wait list.

LETTER OF ACCEPTANCE: If your child is accepted, you will receive a formal letter of acceptance along with a tuition statement. Each year, a few students are accepted conditionally. The expectations of students conditionally admitted are clearly delineated in the acceptance letter. No student will be able to begin classes until all tuition fees are paid in full.

ADMISSION DENIED: Each year some students are denied admission based on their academic and/or behavioral record, if their English language proficiency does not meet the requirements of the grade to which they are applying, or if CI lacks a program to meet their individual needs. Denied candidates may reapply for the following school year once the reason for the denial has been addressed.

WAIT LIST: A candidate is placed on a wait list when he or she is eligible for admission, but there is currently no space in the grade for which he or she is applying. Every effort will be made to indicate the candidate’s current status on the wait list so that the family can plan appropriately.

Once the enrollment is finalized, students interested in applying for the following year must submit an updated application with current documentation. It is important to note that if your child is wait listed, you should explore other educational alternatives while awaiting a decision from CI.

Step 5: Formal Acceptance (Submit Final Documents and Pay Tuition Fee)

After an enrollment offer is made, all tuition and other fees must be paid by the designated due date in order to reserve a seat. To confirm that parents will accept the offer of a place, they will have seven (7) days to notify the school of their decision to enroll by signing the Enrollment Contract. Failing to meet the deadline will result in forfeiting a student’s enrollment. If fees and/or tuition are to be paid by a sponsoring organization, the school requires written documentation from the organization.

All medical requirements including the report of medical exam form, medical history form, proof of TB clearance, and vaccination records must be submitted prior to the first day of school. Students cannot begin school without the medical documents.

PRIORITY SYSTEM: Based on the school’s mission, CI views qualified applicants holistically when offering places. Qualified students from expatriate families residing in Korea will be considered a priority for admissions. The Admissions Office also takes into account the profile of the grade applied for and places students so that diversity and balance within the school is maintained. In addition, and within the constraints of ESOL, learning support and class size limitations, CI also takes into account (in no particular order):

• Children of CI faculty
• Ethnically non-Korean children who are academically proficient in the English language
• Ethnically Korean children who are academically proficient in the English language
• Siblings of students already enrolled in the school are given some priority

 Note: Students with Learning Differences: CI does not currently have the staffing or facilities capacity to support students with special needs (e.g., learning disabilities, cognitive disabilities, and profound physical disabilities).
